I keep forgetting to mention for those who are in need of such but I stopped by Mother Earth Market Wednesday to grab some wheat free tamari sauce and found Glutino Multigrain Crackers a really great wheat free/gluten free cracker  that stands up to "real" crackers very well. I don't think I could tell the difference in a blind taste test.

I've eaten the whole box since Thursday. I'm going to be headed back to Mother Earth some time this week to buy a box each of all the flavors they stock. They're about a dollar cheaper at the store than online but still a little pricy for the quantity you get. Still, I haven't had anything but rice crackers for two years now and those just aren't the same.  I've got some catching up to do.

A couple of years back I discovered the joy that is hot chocolate with a shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey in it.

When I stopped by the grocery store on the way home tonight I discovered Hershey's Special Dark cocoa.

I don't care if it's been in the nineties all week I had to try making the one with the other. That's why God invented air conditioning after all.

I put about a heaping tablespoon of cocoa to a cup and a half of milk. Lost track of the sugar just put in enough to make it mildly sweet.

Sake Brewing in Shrines and Temples

http://www.esake.com/Knowledge/Newsletter/SW/SW2006/sw2006_0.html

There is a reason Mushin has a constant supply, he probably makes it himself.

In addition to the history of Sake brewing there are some interesting tidbits about the interaction between Buddhist monks and Shinto priests. At one point they happily shared temples as well as the results of their brewing.

I can almost guarantee that if you haven't read the rest of this post your first reaction upon clicking that link will be to think I've lost my mind. The big ads for hot Japanese girls and hotels give it a particularly tabloid trashy look. What could be of interest here?

Quite a lot actually once your eyes adjust and you can focus on the text. Here you will find links to dozens of articles on just about everything Japanese, many of which are illustrated. Some are better than others, and most are drawn from other sources, but there is a lot of good information here.

Do you want to know how the Japanese celebrate Christmas? What a wedding kimono looks like? What is the climate like? Need a map of the country or of a particular city?

Here you go.
