Except for special occasions I like to avoid posting more than once a day but I was already planning this when Christina got me into the Scribbler thing and I really need to clear out some of these links.
Title: Mirrors in Belfast
Author: John Steed Esq
Fandom: Avengers
Rated: M
Summary: John Steed's first mission for the Ministry. Without a partner. Warning: Graphic in nature
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4613856/1/Mirrors_in_Belfast
Reason to read:
This is done in first person POV and the characterization of Steed is excellent. The story is darker than most of the canon episodes but it still has the trademark Avengers wit and swashbuckling sense of adventure. It's rated M for a reason. If detailed torture scenes squick you this isn't something you want to read. On the negative side I did see two out of three twists in the ending coming far in advance and there are more than a few cliches scattered about but I can say that about a lot of episodes of the series and I still enjoyed them and this plot makes a lot more sense than many of the later canon efforts. This is a story of young Steed just starting out so no previous knowledge of the series is required.
Title: the Disappearance of the Cutter 'Aliica"
Author: DezoPenguin
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century
Rated: K+
Summary: The disaster left nineteen people dead and the authorities without answers. But can a detective from the age of the hansom cab deal with the mystery of a spacecraft that vanishes without a trace?

Reason to read:
A well constructed mystery is always welcome no matter who the protagonist is, a good Sherlock Holmes pastiche is doubly so. This one also does a very good job at fitting within the show's canon. All non-fans need to know is given briefly within the story itself but I'll recap: in the year 2103 scientists revive Sherlock Holmes' preserved body. When he awakes he retains his personality and memories but he is now young again. 221B has also been preserved as a museum and is handed back to him along with a robot helper programed with Watson's personality. Almost all of the episodes were based on actual Sherlock Holmes stories or references within them but no one ever comments on the way history keeps repeating. This story takes one of those untold tales that Watson was fond of teasing us with as its basis and it kept me guessing almost to the end.
Title: Scars
Author: Aquamarine07
Fandom: Pirates of the Caribbean
Rated: K+
Summary: Will and Jack get into an argument about their battle wounds, and someone surprising comes out on top! Set PostAWE about a year or so.
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4602478/1/Scars
Reason to read:
I can't tell you what it is without spoiling it but the ending rocks. It's 1600 words give or take. Go read it.
Title: Never Never
Author: Red Crow
Fandoms: Neverwhere/Peter Pan
Rated: K
Summary: Richard finds an old friend of Door's lost in the parlor. X-over with another sort of London altogether.
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4241302/1/Never_Never
Reason to read:
It totally makes sense after reading this that the world of Neverwhere would co-exist with Neverland. It's short and very funny. You do need to have read Neverwhere to enjoy this since a lot of the humor is based on the character's personalities. You need to know Peter Pan too but I figure anybody reading this has that covered.
Title: Encore
Author: My.Psuedonym.Was.Taken
Fandom: Cats
Rated: K+
Summary: Gus dies as he would've wanted. In the theatre, center stage
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4572823/1/Encore
Reason to read:
It's inevitable that once there was Cats fanfic the furry people would come and write really mindblowingly bad porn in it so I can't recommend much time spent casually browsing the category. THIS story, however, is sweet, beautiful, and a real tribute to the character. You don't need to have seen the musical to be touched by a well written story of the death of an beloved pet. I lost one of my elderly cats this year and I couldn't help getting a little teary.
