Random Thought

The Japanese don't have middle names. Without middle names how do you know if you've gotten on your mother's very last, extremely frayed, nerve and are now in danger of being grounded for life if you push her one more micron?

Simple, dear. She drops your honorific! ::twinkle::

I'd buy that, but Mama Higarashi hardly ever uses any honorifics with Souta and Kagome.

Wouldn't they just tack on some hideously belittling diminutive?

If they could they probably would.

Are there no belittling diminutives in Japanese?

I'm not sure, I don't know enough about the language. I know that the form of "You" you use can be insulting. Alos, using the honorific kun for an adult male who isn't very much younger than you would count but that wouldn't work with a kid.

Ooh! Good question. I mean, that does appear to be the only reason middle names exist: so kids (of any age, sadly) know when they're in deep trouble.

Hey, nice to see you here.
